Haemorrhoids

Proctology

Haemorrhoids, or anal varices, are enlarged blood vessels in and around the anal canal. They are a natural structure, but can become enlarged and cause discomfort. We distinguish between internal haemorrhoids (inside the anus) and external haemorrhoids (outside, around the anus). Haemorrhoids are the most common proctological condition. The formation of haemorrhoids occurs when pressure builds up in the nodules. The most common causes of nodules include poor diet, pregnancy, obesity, diarrhoea, and disturbances in bowel movements.

Symptoms of haemorrhoids may include:

  • bleeding during or after bowel movements.
  • itching and burning in the anal area
  • pain
  • prolapse of nodules from anus
  • feeling of incomplete bowel movement

Laser removal of haemorrhoids is one of the least invasive methods. It allows to effectively get rid of the bothersome problem in a short time. It is a modern procedure during which the doctor, using a laser fibre, leads to the fibrosis of the tissues of the haemorrhoidal nodule. The absorbed laser light gradually destroys the haemorrhoidal vessels, shrinking the surrounding connective tissue at the same which leads to the resolution of symptoms. The procedure is carried out painlessly under local anaesthesia or under brief general anaesthesia.

It is important to consult your doctor if you experience symptoms of haemorrhoids to determine the appropriate treatment.

Haemorrhoid treatments at Diamond Clinic are performed by Dr Anna Trybull :

– Laser thermoablation of haemorrhoids – a minimally invasive method of treating haemorrhoids, involving the closure of blood vessels using light and laser energy with a wavelength of 1470nm

– Haemorrhoid sclerotherapy – a method involving obliteration of blood vessels using a chemical substance, which causes closure and shrinking of the haemorrhoidal plexus vessels; Sometimes the treatment requires another application of the preparation after 4-6 weeks

– Classical haemorrhoid excision – Milligan-Morgan or Fergusson method (in the operating theatre). Applies only to very advanced lesions – grade IV haemorrhoids or if the patient chooses this method of treatment
