What is a surgical neck lift?

The face and neck are the first things people see when looking at us and they should harmonise with each other. Unfortunately, as we age, the neck can adversely change its appearance much more than our face; in some people, the negative effects of neck ageing are unfortunately already visible at a relatively young age. The thin skin of the neck develops wrinkles and, over time, overhangs, which are a particular problem for patients; in addition, the sharp angle between the chin and neck, which accounts for a youthful appearance, disappears. The surgical neck lift allows us to solve all these problems.  The procedure produces a natural and immediate effect. We obtain a clearly defined separation between the chin and neck, i.e. the so-called chin-neck angle is sharpened, the neck skin becomes taut, excess skin disappears and the neck regains its youthful appearance.

Neck lift – what does the procedure look like?

The neck lift is performed under local anaesthesia with possible analgosedation or under general anaesthesia, which ensures that the patient is completely comfortable during the procedure. The plastic surgeon makes a small incision under the chin and cuts behind the ears that go back along the hairline. In this way, it is possible to separate the skin from the superficially lying wide neck muscles, plasticise them and reduce excess skin. The scars from the procedure hide in the natural folds and hairline making them virtually invisible. After the procedure, a drain is usually left in place until the next day and a specialised dressing is made.

Neck lift – how to proceed after the procedure?

Recovery time varies from person to person, but is generally no longer than 2 weeks. Daily wound washing and antisepsis are usually recommended. Sutures are usually removed within a week to ten days after surgery. For the first three weeks after surgery, do not physically strain or exercise. Overexposure to the sun, sauna and solarium should also be avoided.
