Frenuloplasty – Lengthening of the penile frenulum

Urology

The penile frenulum is a triangular, thin fold of skin that connects the foreskin to the glans penis. It is located on the ventral surface of the penis. Physiologically, it reaches a length that allows the foreskin to slide freely at full erection and does not cause the glans penis to bend ventrally.

A foreskin frenulum that is too short can be caused by a congenital defect or shortening due to trauma or penile infection.

A frenulum of the foreskin that is too short, can simply like a phimosis of the foreskin cause pain during erection and make sexual intercourse impossible or unpleasant. In addition, a short frenulum can tear frequently, leading to bleeding and, following repeated tearing, scarring of the tissue.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE?

The short frenulum plastic surgery (frenuloplasty) is a short, safe procedure that improves penile function and aesthetics. The entire procedure is carried out at the Diamond Clinic under local anaesthetic, and the patient can go home safely immediately after the procedure. During the procedure, the urologist makes an incision in the frenulum and performs frenuloplasty, which involves suturing the wound edges in such a way that the frenulum is lengthened. Absorbable sutures are used during the procedure and do not need to be removed.

RECOMMENDATIONS AFTER SURGERY

The wound usually heals within a week. During this time, the patient is advised to maintain special hygiene and wound care – slipping the foreskin every day, washing the wound with disinfectant fluid and protecting it with ointment.

In the post-operative period, the patient is obliged to change the dressing regularly and to disinfect the surgical area as advised by the doctor.

After the procedure, sexual intercourse must be stopped for a period of 4 weeks.

The procedure is performed in our Clinic by urologists with many years of experience, Dr Maciej Jarosz and Dr Tomasz Drabarek.
