Induratio penis plastica also known as Peyronie’s disease, is an acquired and generally progressive condition of the penis, also known as penile plastic sclerosis. Most men notice the presence of the disease when they feel thickened nodules (known as plaques) under the skin of the penis. The disease generally affects so-called middle-aged men – more than 60 per cent of sufferers are between the ages of 40 and 60; however, men between the ages of 18 and 80 are also affected. As the disease progresses, pain can occur with or without an erection and the penis becomes curved during erection, which can make sexual intercourse difficult or impossible.

The treatment process begins with a thorough diagnosis of the condition. A penile ultrasound will need to be performed to confirm the existence of the plaque and to determine its location. A general urine examination will also be performed. Treatment consists of a series of shockwave treatments that will soften the plaque and thus existing symptoms will be alleviated or completely cured with each treatment. ESWT wave therapy is very effective and non-invasive.
