Rectal Polyp

Proctology

An anal polyp is a small, benign lesion that grows from the mucosa of the rectum or anus. Polyps can vary in shape, such as round, oval, mushroom-shaped or flattened, and can vary in size from a few millimetres to several centimetres. In most cases, anal polyps are asymptomatic, but in some cases they can lead to symptoms such as anal bleeding, pain, itching or a feeling of incomplete bowel movement. Although most anal polyps are benign, some can be pre-cancerous and increase the risk of developing rectal cancer, so it is important to have regular proctological check-ups and remove polyps when they are identified.

Getting rid of an anal polyp often requires medical intervention to ensure safe and effective removal of the lesion. Depending on the size, number and location of the polyps, the doctor may use different removal techniques.
